November 9-13, 2021 - WACO, TEXAS MOTOR COACH TRIP

Waco 2021

Join us as we board our deluxe motor coach on Tuesday, November 9, and travel to what “used to be” a sleepy little cattle town! That was before Chip and Joanna Gaines parlayed their hit HGTV home remodeling show into an empire that includes branded goods, a magazine, a coffee shop and the Magnolia Market at the Silos, a nationally recognized boutique home décor store. There is no shortage of adventures to embark upon including a stroll through the cultural and historic district and a walk across the historic Waco Suspension Bridge, built in 1870, where the clopping hooves of cattle followed the Chisholm and Shawnee Trails to the Waco stockyards. We will spend a night on the road at the Hampton Inn in the town of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, then travel about five hours to Waco the next morning. Upon arrival, lunch will be “on your own” at the Magnolia Table, Chip and Joanna’s restaurant. After lunch, there will be time in the Magnolia Market, which is the nationally recognized boutique home décor store founded by Joanna. The store features a hand-selected collection of unique and inspiring design items featured in her farmhouse and on her HGTV show. Located downtown in the renovated historic Brazos Valley Cotton Oil Co., Magnolia Market at the Silos has a broad range of home décor, gifts, and antiques. Later, we will check into the Comfort Inn & Suites. Dinner tonight will be served at Ninfa’s Tex-Mex Restaurant. Enjoy a legacy that is about more than just wonderful food. Everyone is embraced as family when they dine at Ninfa’s. We’ll enjoy the tastiest fajitas, nachos, tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, and ice-cold tasty margaritas! On Day 3, after breakfast, we will meet our guide for a day of touring and sight-seeing. We will visit the Homestead Craft Village which features a pottery house, blacksmith shop, a cheese-making operation, a woodworking and fine furniture shop. It’s a crafts shoppers paradise! Lunch “on your own” will be at the Market where you will select from a variety of food trucks. After lunch, commence the Fixer Upper Tour, see many of the homes as well as future projects of Chip and Joanna Gaines, such as Cottonland Castle. They recently purchased this 6700 square feet castle now located in the center of Waco for $425,000. We will visit the Waco Suspension Bridge, built in 1866, which has a most interesting history. In addition, we will visit the ALICO Building and the McClennan County Courthouse, both projects of Chip and Joanna, plus we will have an opportunity to see some of the HGTV Fixer Upper Homes including the Mailander House, Little House on the Prairie, 3 Little Pigs House, Hardy House, Catastrophe House, Hillcrest Estate, Beanstalk Bungalow, Patty Baker House, and Chip and Joanna’s first house, McNamara House. Dinner tonight will be served at Sacee’s Southern Eatery, where we will enjoy a true southern hospitality buffet and flavor so good that we’ll want to return again and again. After breakfast the next day, we will tour the Dr. Pepper Museum, including the original 1906 bottling plant and the historic Kellum-Rotan Building, built in the 1880s. We will also tour the Texas Ranger Museum Hall of Fame. We will spend some time on photo ops and shopping stops at some of Joanna’s favorite places as seen on the Fixer Upper Show, including the Harp Design Company, JDH Iron Design, Junque in the Trunk and Cedar Chest Antiques. On Friday, November 6, we will depart for home and spend the night on the road again at the Hampton Inn in Arkadelphia. Cost for this trip is as follows: $720 per person/Double; $910 Single; $600 per person/Triple. Call Carolyn Cobb ASAP if you wish to make a reservation for this fun pre-holiday excursion Out West. October 13-23, 2021 - Portugal/Douro River Cruise

Portugal/Douro River Cruise

An overnight flight transports our group to Lisbon, Portugal, where we will spend two nights before boarding our ship. While there, tour highlights include such famous sites as Jeronimos Monastery, ‘Monument to the Discoveries’, and Belem Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There will be free time to shop, dine and experience this cosmopolitan city on your own. Enroute to the ship in Porto, we’ll visit Fatima, home to the Sanctuary of Fatima, an important Catholic pilgrimage site. Continue to Coimbra and its famous university before arriving in Porto to embark the MS Emerald Radiance, home for the next seven nights. Day 5 is a day of sailing through the twists and turns of the Douro Valley. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this area is sparsely populated by small quaint villages and typical communities with vineyards and small farms. This afternoon, the ship arrives in the village of Pinhao, perfectly situated on a river bend surrounded by terraced hillsides that produce some of the world’s best Port wine. We’ll begin the day with a visit to a beautiful Quinta Vineyard with spectacular views of the Douro Valley. Learn about wine production and its importance to the culture and economy. This afternoon, the ship sails for Vega de Terron, gateway to Spain. Day 7 excursion takes us to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Salamanca, Spain. During the guided walking tour, see amazingly detailed and intricately carved buildings of the university, the 12th century Romanesque Church of San Martin and the house of Shells. Regal splendor abounds in the Plaza Mayor, the heartbeat of the city. You’ll have free time for lunch and to explore independently before returning to the ship. On day 8, we’ll arrive in Pocinho and disembark for a morning excursion to the Coa Valley Museum OR take part in a canoeing experience. The museum is designed to blend in with its surroundings. The concrete structure houses prehistoric stone carvings made by the early inhabitants of the Douro which were uncovered during construction of a nearby dam project. Return to the ship for lunch and relax on deck as the ship sails through idyllic surroundings on the way to Regua. This evening, enjoy an off-ship dinner at a traditional vineyard estate. After arriving in Regua, we will journey to the marvelous baroque village of Lamego, home to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies—one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Portugal. See the Santuary perched atop the hill, with its iconic 686-step granite staircase, decorated with the traditional Portuguese blue and white ‘azulejos’ tiles. Return to the ship in Regua after the excursion. Day 10, the ship returns to Porto, a city with an eclectic mix of modern and ancient architecture. An included tour highlights the sights from historic landmarks to the scenic beauty. The remainder of the afternoon is a leisure in Porto. On day 11, we disembark the MS Emerald Radiance and bid a fond farewell to Portugal, filled with memories of this remarkable cruise along the ‘river of gold’. This tour is through Mayflower Cruises & Tours. Please contact Carolyn Cobb at 270-890-1617 for more information.
