An overnight flight transports us to a country of stunning landscapes, lively cities and stirring history. Our tour begins in the capital city of Edinburgh. You will have a choice of exploring both the Old and New towns before visiting the Palace at Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh and former home of Mary Queen of Scots. Or, for a different perspective, you may join a local expert and explore the Old and New towns on foot. A visit to Edinburgh Castle is included for both choices. We will travel to St. Andrews, the beautiful town that gave the world the game of golf. We’ll travel next to Pitlochry, a vibrant Victorian town, which we get to explore on our own. Later we’ll visit a farm set in the heart of the Highlands where we will witness sheepdogs at work while surrounded by the mountains of Cairngorms National Park. Next, we will visit Culloden Battlefield where in 1746 a battle changed the course of Scotland’s history. Next, we’ll make a stop at the majestic Dunrobin Castle which dates back to the 1300s. We will voyage via ferry to the Orkney Islands, once a Viking stronghold off the coast of Scotland. We’ll visit Skara Brae and discover the remains of a Neolithic village built at the same time as the Great Pyramids in Egypt. Visit the town of Viking Kirkwall before returning to the mainland. Next, we’ll journey to Ballachulish. On the way, we will enjoy a cruise on Loch Ness, one of Britain’s most scenic bodies of water, and we’ll keep a lookout for “Nessie”! We will visit the ruins of Urquhart Castle then travel through the Great Glen, famous for its many lochs (lakes). We travel over the Skye Bridge to the legendary Isle of Skye. We’ll visit Armadale Castle and Gardens and the Museum of the Isles. Returning to Ballachulish, we’ll see Glenfinnan, where Bonnie Prince Charlie rallied the clansmen for battle during the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion. We will travel next through the heart of Scotland, passing through Glencoe and crossing Rannoch Moor. Arriving at one of Scotland’s renowned whisky distilleries, we’ll taste the Highland malt whisky which is considered the world’s finest! Later we’ll visit the Nat’l Piping Centre and learn about the Great Highland Bagpipe. A joyous farewell dinner will be at the Centre’s farm-to-table restaurant where we’ll toast the end of our Scottish adventure. Next day, we’ll bid farewell to part of the group who will travel on to Ireland for a 4-day, 3-night excursion! Included is Glasgow, Shannon, Cliffs of Moher, Dromoland Castle, Ring of Kerry, Blarney Stone, and Killarney. This tour is through Collette.

 Abingdon
October 2-4
Motor Coach Trip to Abingdon, VA

Travel with us by deluxe motor coach to this historic town located near the Virginia/Tennessee border.

Join us for a Fall motor coach trip to Abingdon, VA, the oldest English-speaking settlement west of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located off I-81 near the Virginia/Tennessee border, Abingdon provides visitors with a memorable experience as they stroll brick-lined sidewalks past buildings that date back to the 1700s. Star attractions include The Martha Washington Hotel & Spa (our home for 2 nigihts) and The Barter Theatre, the State Theater of Virginia. After checking into “The Martha”, we’ll enjoy Afternoon Tea and have time to explore the historic hotel and grounds. We’ll have a special dinner at The Tavern, the oldest historic building in Abingdon. Built in 1779, it was used from its beginning as a tavern and overnight inn for stagecoach travelers. It is now an elegant upscale restaurant serving American and German cuisine in a cozy, warm atmosphere with period décor. The next morning, after breakfast at the hotel, we will board our coach for a half-day driving tour of historic Abingdon. Our step-on guide will be “The Salt Maker”, Jim Bordwine. He will bring to life the history of the Appalachia Mountain people and the role this region has had in the Ice Age, Revolutionary War, Civil War and some of history’s greatest moments including rocket fuel and moonshine! Jim Bordwine has a history of his own, his appearances on “Mountain Men” (History Channel) and his work to keep and share “real” history will add to your experience as you visit the sites where history was made and been kept. We’ll have free time for lunch on our own and perusing the shops in downtown Abingdon. Or, you may choose to return to the hotel for enjoying the “Spa” activities during the afternoon. At 5:30, we’ll dine at The Martha, then walk across the street for a performance of “The Producers” at The Barter Theatre. The next morning, after a relaxing breakfast, we’ll check out of the hotel and head to the Abingdon Vineyards and Winery, located in a picturesque idyllic setting at the confluence of a small brook and river. We’ll enjoy a variety of wine tastings and then a delightful catered soup/sandwich lunch. There is a lovely outdoor seating area to enjoy the natural ambiance of an autumn day! After lunch, we’ll board our motor coach and depart for Hoptown. Cost per person is $640 for double; $850 for single. A deposit of $200 per person is required upon reservation. Balance due by August 1. (No cancellation insurance will be available for this trip.)
