Treasures of Northern California

Highlights: San Francisco, Choice of San Francisco Bay Cruise or City Tour of San Francisco, Yosemite National Park, Sacramento, Lake Tahoe, Sonoma Wine Country, Winery Tours, Napa Valley Wine Train

Planters Bank presents…Treasures of Northern California, April 8-16, 2018.  Join us in exploring northern California. From its most popular cities to fertile valleys and historic gold rush towns, many hidden treasures await. Our tour opens in San Francisco, the beautiful “City by the Bay”. You may choose to take a one-hour cruise of San Francisco Bay or you may choose to join a local expert on a city tour which highlights Fisherman’s Wharf, the famous cable cars, the Golden Gate Bridge and the view of the city from the imposing Twin Peaks. There will be free time to relax or explore this beautiful city independently. You might decide to hop a cable car or further enjoy the sights at Fisherman’s Wharf….the opportunities are endless. Next, we travel east through California’s Central Valley and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

We’ll visit a small farm in Oakdale and later stop at Ironstone Vineyards for a wine tasting with time to explore their gold mining artifacts, antiques and music room with a fully restored Alhambra Theatre Pipe organ. Later we will arrive in historic Tuolumne, a gateway to Yosemite National Park and our home for the next two nights. We will take a Tram Tour through Yosemite National Park where we will be amazed by the unique rock formations, deep valleys, Alpine meadows and pristine wilderness. Upon arrival in Sacramento, we’ll visit the California State Railroad Museum, perhaps the best railroad museum in the United States.

Lunch will be in Old Sacramento’s historic district where we will catch a glimpse at what life was like during the California Gold Rush when thousands of “49ers” flocked to the town. There will be plenty of time for visiting the unique shops. Next, we’ll travel over the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Lake Tahoe where we’ll enjoy a narrated cruise of spectacular Lake Tahoe aboard the M.S. Dixie II paddlewheeler. Later, we’ll visit Sutter Fort, a living museum of yesteryear. Next, we travel through the treasured vineyards and arrive in Sonoma, one of the world’s premier wine destinations.

We’ll visit a local vineyard to taste the wines for which this region is so famous. Breathtaking views abound as beautiful vineyards pepper the countryside enroute to Santa Rosa. We will visit The Olive Press to sample many flavors and purchase olive oil to ship anywhere you wish. Then we will climb aboard the elegant Napa Valley Wine Train, sit back and relax as the incredible scenery, famous vineyards and delicious farewell lunch come together creating a one-of-a-kind experience.
